Toying with Social Media: The Misadventures Part Two

Well, it’s time for another installment of Toying with Social Media: The Misadventures. This is where I describe how I have the innate ability to get in weird scenarios with social media and how you can avoid them.

We all like to improve ourselves, whether if it is going to the gym, reading, or picking up a new skill. I actually wanted to improve my drawing skills (with some success) and I can across a website called Udemy, where you can get either free or paid classes that teach you different skills ranging from languages to computer programming lessons (It is actually a good site to use). I have been a member for a while, and like every other service, they will often send out a email asking how you like the website, what you would like to see in the future, and so on.

Anyway, a few days ago, I got an email from a person named Robbin asking the aforementioned questions. Normally I would delete these kind of messages as they are usually sent out automatically. I don’t know why, but I decided to respond to the email saying that I enjoyed the service and wouldn’t change a thing. Still thinking that it was an automatic messaging, I decided to write something just to make me chuckle.
And if this is just an automatic email that is sent out, let me just do something completely random even if it’s just to make me smile for a minute. Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle! If you get the reference, I salute you.

I was actually referencing the Nostalgia Critic’s review of Thomas the Tank Engine.

A few days later, I received a return email from someone who worked at Udemy named Josh, who sent me this in response.

Hi Jess,

My name is Josh, and I work closely with Robbin in the process of reaching out to students like you to see how Udemy is working for you. We both just wanted to say thank you so much for your feedback, and it’s great to hear how much you are enjoying Udemy! We always appreciate hearing from our students, and will be sure to share your thoughts with the rest of the team.

Wishing you the best of luck in all your endeavors!

P.S. Though I had to Google your “Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle!” reference, as Thomas and the Magic Railroad came out around the time I was graduating high school, I just wanted to let you know that a real person actually did see it. 😀 Happy learning!

Yeah, they not only sent a message back, but they actually took the time to research ‘Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle’. I have no words. I mean, is this normal? Oh well, though I admit, I was kind of laughing when I saw this response. But it only makes me wonder if the original person who sent the email out didn’t know how to respond to this or just couldn’t deal with my brand of sarcastic stupidity. I am just glad that this was the kind of response I got instead of anything threatening.

So, what’s the lesson? Watch what you write in an email survey because they will Google what you are talking about. Until next time, Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle. I know, I have just lost my Man Card for saying that.
